Professor Zhang Wenguang Attends the Seminar “Taking History as Mirror and Promoting the Continuous Development of the System of Compensation for Vessel-source Pollution Damages in China” in Shanghai

The Seminar “Taking History as Mirror and Promoting the Continuous Development of the System of Compensation for Vessel-source Pollution Damages in China” was held at North Bund International Shipping Service Center in Shanghai on November 22, 2018. The seminar was sponsored by the Secretariat of the Management Committee of Chinese Ship-source Oil Pollution Compensation Found, organized by Chinese Ship-source Oil Pollution Compensation Claim Service Center, and attended by over 50 persons, including officials from the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, local maritime courts and other government and judicial organs, the relevant policy and legal experts and scholars from CASS, Dalian Maritime University and other universities and research institutions, as well as representatives from insurance companies, shipping companies, law firms, and assessment agencies. At the seminar, keynote speeches were given and discussions were carried out on such topics as the revision of the Chinese Maritime Law, the understanding and application of the conventions relating to compensation for vessel-source pollution damages, Technical Guides for Marine Ecological Damage Assessment: Part II: Marine Oil Spill, analysis of cases of compensation for vessel-source pollution damages, and the revision of the Administrative Measures for the Collection and Use of Compensation Funds for Vessel-Induced Oil Pollution Damage.

Professor Zhang Wenguang, an associate research fellow at CASS Institute of International Law, attended the seminar and gave a keynote speech at the seminar.
