Recently, Professor Zhi Zhenfeng, a research fellow at CASS Law Institute, was interviewed by the newspaper Legal Daily, in which he expressed his opinions on the fact that dozens of foreign enterprises have labeled China's territories, including Tibet, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as independent countries. In the interview, Professor Zhi pointed out that respect for the sovereignty is a basic pillar of modern international order and abidance by the law of the host country is the basic precondition for the conduct of business by transnational corporations. However, some western countries and their transnational corporations totally disregard these basic principles of international law, even blatantly violate Chinese laws that uphold national unity and territorial and sovereignty integrity. Although there may be many different reasons for the acts of mislabeling of Chinese territories by foreign enterprises, some are deliberate while others resulting from ignorance, one thing is certain: not enough importance has been attached to this issue the responsible persons of these enterprises. Therefore the Chinese government must let them understand the extreme importance of respecting the territorial and sovereign integrity of China and recognizing the one-China principle and resolutely deal with and punish any act of mislabeling Chinese territories in accordance with the current laws and regulations.
