Professor Chen Guoping and Professor Mo Jihong Meet Famous Chinese-American Lawyer Zhang Jun

On December 12, 2018, Mr. Zhang Jun, a famous Chinese-American Lawyer in the US, visited CASS Institute of International Law and held a meeting with Professor Chen Guoping, Secretary of the Joint Party Committee of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law, and Professor Mo Jihong, Director of CASS Institute of International Law. Also attending the meeting were Professor Liao Fan, Head of the Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Institute of International Law, Professor Liu Jingdong, Head of the Department International Economic Law of CASS Institute of International Law, and some researchers from CASS Institute of International Law.

 

In the meeting, Professor Mo Jihong gave Mr. Zhang Jun an introduction to the historical development, functions, organizational structure and current situation of development of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law, especially the researches carried out by the two institutes on the compliance of law by Chinese enterprises operating overseas and the protection of the interests of Chinese citizens overseas. Professor Chen Guoping extended warm welcome to Mr. Zhang Jun and stressed the importance of legal rules in understanding, dealing and coping with the problems in the current China-US relationship. Mr. Zhang Jun shared his opinions on the characteristics of the China-US relationship during the Trump administration, the impact of the mid-term election in the US on the China-US relationship, and the trend of development of China-US relationship in the near future in light of his long-term legal practice and his experience as political and legal commentators in various major mass media in the US. He also exchanged views with scholars of the institute on some hot issues in the current US-China economic and trade relations, including the extradition procedure involved in the incident of arrest of Huawei CFO in Canada, the US judicial system and the competence and power of the US president.
