Professor Zhang Wenguang Attends an Expert Meeting on the Revision of the Maritime Law

The Expert Meeting on the Revision of the Maritime Law, organized by the Ministry of Transportation, was held in Beijing on October 17, 2018. The meeting was attended by over a dozen experts and scholars, including members of the Project Team on the Revision of the Maritime Law of Dalian Maritime University, officials from the Ministry of Transportation, judges from the Supreme People’s Court and scholars from relevant research institutions and universities. The purpose of the meeting was to solicit expert opinions on the draft amendment to the Maritime Law.

At the meeting, Professor Chu Beiping, director of the Project Team on the Revision of the Maritime Law of Dalian Maritime University, gave the participants an introduction to the current situation of and the main issues in the revision of the Maritime Law. After the introduction, the experts and scholars carried out discussions and, in light of their own practical experiences and research results, put forward opinions on the revision of the law around the following four key issues: “the incorporation of the regulation of domestic waterway transport into the Maritime Law”; “incorporation of the regulation of port operators into the Maritime Law”, “the adjustment of location of the chapter on voyage charter in the Law”, and “incorporation of compensation for ship pollution damage into the Maritime Law”.

Professor Zhang Wenguang, an associate research fellow at CASS Institute of International Law, attended the meeting.
