The adoption by the CCP Central Committee of the Decision concerning Several Major Issues in Comprehensively Advancing Governance according to Law on October 23, 2014 was an important event in the development of the rule of law in China that had draw the attention and generated great enthusiasm among Chinese legal scholars. Generally speaking, currently China is in between tradition, reality, and modernization. It must carry forward the traditional Chinese culture, explore new approaches to reform and opening up, while at the same time endeavor to realize modernization by following the modern principles of the rule of law. In view of this situation, the Jurisprudence Department of CASS Law Institute has selected a number of articles on the rule of law in China and published them in a special issue of the periodical Law and Democracy Review. This book is a comprehensive collection of important writings on the rule of law in China. The authors of this collection are prominent middle-aged scholars of jurisprudence who have been closely following the progress of the construction of the rule of law in China. They have observed, analyzed and explained the development of the rule of law in China from the perspectives of tradition, reality and modernity. Their views expressed in this book can be regarded as the “Chinese rule of law theory” in the formation.
