A CASS Delegation Headed by Professor Mo Jiong Attends a Series of Activities in Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the “May 4th Movement” in Macao

Recently, a CASS Delegation, headed by Professor Mo Jihong, the director of CASS Institute of International Law, attended a series of activities in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the “May 4thMovement in Macao” at the invitation of the Education and Youth Bureau of Macao SAR. Other members of the delegation included Professor Li Zhong, Professor Xiong Qiuhong, Professor Chen Xinxin, Professor Liu Xiaomei, Professor Li Qingming, Professor Jia Yin, and Professor Fu Panfeng.

On May 4, the delegation attended the flag-raising ceremony at Forum de Macau together with over 2,000 primary and secondary school students. After the ceremony, the delegation attended the 2019 Youth Forum, at which Professor Mo Jihong gave a keynote speech as a specially invited guest to the forum. In his speech, entitled “the rule of law and the spirit of the May 4th Movement” Professor Mo, took Party Secretary-General Xi Jinping’s speech at the conference in commemoration of the 100-year anniversary of the May 4th Movement as the entry point to illustrate the essence of the movement as a great patriotic revolutionary movement and stress patriotism as the core of the May 4th Movement. He pointed out that the mainstream value of Macao, namely “loving the motherland and loving Macao”, is the concrete embodiment of the spirit of May 4th Movement, reviewed the historical causes of the movement and the process in which the May 4th Youth Day became a statutory holiday in China, stressed the pioneering role played by the youth in the liberation and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and the role played by the Constitution and the Basic Law of Macao SAR in ensuring the stability and prosperity of Macao and in creating a law-based business environment in Macao. Professor Mo especially explained to the young students in Macao Party Secretary-General Xi Jinping’s speech at the conference in commemoration of the 100-year anniversary of the May 4th Movement, and encouraged them to seize historical opportunities of the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road to contribute their wisdom and strength to the realization of the Chinese Dream in a new era.

After the speech, the delegation visited the “Museum of Patriotism”, newly created by the Educational Bureau of Macao for commemoration of the May 4th Movement, and attended the launching ceremony of the museum and of the “Constitutional Café Corner”.
