The Academic Seminar “Towards the Future of Criminal Law Science: Social Changes and a New Era of Criminal Law Science”, sponsored by CASS Law Institute and organized by the Criminal Law Department of the Institute, was recently held in Beijing. The seminar, organized as a part of a series of activities celebrating the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening-up in China and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of CASS Law Institutes, was attended by about 100 experts and scholars from universities, research institutions and government organs throughout the country.

The two-day seminar was divided into four sessions, in which the participants gave speeches and carried out discussions around the following topics: review of and reflections on the development of criminal rule of law in China in the 40 years since the reform and opening-up; an examination of the development of the traditional criminal law system in the past 40 years; new challenges to the criminal rule of law posed by the scientific and technological revolution; and new demands raised by the Internet era on the criminal rule of law.
